Disclosure & Review Policy

This post is dated January 1, 2009 just to get it out of the way. It was posted in October 2009 but that doesn't mean I haven't been following it all along. I've been thinking about it for a while now and thought I'd better get it out there. Then there's that thing with the FTC....

~Disclosure Statement~
I am not a professional reviewer nor do I have a journalism or English degree. I just love to read. Books are sent to me, free of charge, to review on my blog. I read them and give an honest review. I also review books I've purchased and borrowed. There is no difference in my reviews. I do not review all books I read ;-) but will review all books sent to me.

I am not paid to review books. I do make a small referral commission from Amazon if you click through one of my "buy from Amazon" links and buy books during that viewing session. I have no idea how much, it hasn't happened yet. But, frankly, I don't care where you buy your books, I just want you to read. Purchasing is preferred since it supports an author & industry but use the library if you need/want to. JUST READ.

All books sent to me for review will be labeled "Review Book" (going back to double check all my reviews.....)

I'm not sure how much you need/want to know. I borrow a book from the library, I may review it. I purchase a book (from a number of places), I may review it. I grab a book off my shelf and re-read it, I may review it. An author/publicist/publisher sends me a free book? I will review it. That's just to say thanks for the book it doesn't mean I'm going to love it. However, you need to realize that I try not to say "Yes, I'll review this book" unless I think I might enjoy it!

Any questions? ask!

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Saying I'd recommend a book can get tricky - I tell everyone about the books I'm reading. After much thought and revision, I think I've got a review policy I can live with....

~A Review Policy, of sorts~
I love to read. I thought I'd read almost anything. Once I started blogging, joining challenges and being asked to review books I realized just how narrow my reading was. Sure I read across genres but not like now. And people are willing to send me free books so I can talk to you about them? COOL!

I've been trying to come up with a review policy, one with stars or something, checking out other bloggers. I guess it boils down to the fact that my reading interests have changed/grown. I expect them them to change as I continue to blog/review. One thing before you read further. I like to own my books since I may read them again. Budget and Space have joined together to force me to THINK before buying/keeping all the books I want to.

So, for now:

5 = shelf-worthy OR I own this book, have read it multiple times and plan to keep it.

4 = Bargain Table then donate OR I own this book and am keeping it to read again later.

3 = borrow OR I own this book, have read it at least twice but am not sure if I'm keeping it any longer.

2 = Well, that was interesting. Want to give it a try?

1 = DNF

I have no idea how this stacks up to retail/social sites that have a rating system. When I get a chance to cross-post a review, I'll adjust my thoughts to fit their system. It is possible (most likely) that they won't match up.
