My husband is working from home. My son has moved out. My parents are dead... yeah, still hurts to say that one.

There is a door on the room my husband works in, also on our bedroom door. There really is no reason not to put in an exercise video. Our gym is open again! He said it was something to look forward to. It was to ports we've been to before but it was a new ship and we were both looking forward to it.

We were supposed to be leaving today.

So, my brother and I have cabin fever. My dad asks if we're still in lock down most every day. The stroke victim is the one that remembers what day it is, mostly. They've all blurred together for me. In fact, if my calendar reminder about the cruise hadn't popped up yesterday, I would have forgotten my birthday!

Except my husband didn't. My laptop is old enough (it's 10!) that Apple won't service it and my hard drive is dying. Everyday I wonder if it is the last day. He got me another one. We did try a Chrome book but I left it at home when I first came over, after all it was only for two weeks. I've got to order a new mouse and an adapter for my external drive but my next post should be on my new laptop.

My brother Tim and I are taking care of Dad.

Good news? We're healthy.

Bad news? Getting a little paranoid.

Hang in there everyone, stay away from everyone.
We have a camera set up in my dad's bedroom. I actually caught him just before he fell out of bed! While I'm sad about his lack of privacy, I'm glad I don't have to actually sit in his room all night.

I think back to being a new parent standing over a crib watching my child breath. Now, I watch the camera's feed on my phone, waiting for my dad to move, even just a little, so I know he's okay.Book Dragonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11078900987400537432noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4131314497582083424.post-13388573897314497712019-09-08T22:22:00.000-07:002019-09-08T22:22:02.614-07:00good news bad newsMy treatments are over and I'm now at a monthly shot and daily pill. That's the good news. The bad news is that my dad had a stroke.

He was driving on a Friday and had a stroke sometime Saturday morning.

So I'm now trying to figure out my RL, still sucked into fanfiction, and being weekend graveyard caregiver for my dad. My brother who is living the closest is out of town on a job (wild fire team coordinator) so I've moved into his place to be closer. Luckily the siblings/dad can afford a part-time caregiver or I'd never make it!

All thoughts of talking to/with you at least weekly after treatment has flown the coop. I hope you enjoy whatever challenges you signed up for and have a GREAT reading year. I'm crossing my fingers that I can post challenges for 2020 but right now it doesn't look good.
Fourteen mostly beautiful days. We did have to sail through storms off the coast of California and they were ROUGH! Hawaii was wonderful and I learned I need to fly over and spend more time at each island. No way is a partial day enough.

Now I fully understand what my Mom was going though before her knee surgery. She went through drawers and closets clearing this out. I have surgery scheduled for Monday. It's out patient but I'll still be put under for it. I'm still going to leave a note on my keyboard. There wasn't time to go through drawers and closets. I'm truly hoping to be back soon after but give me a month to get my brain working again.

I bought two books while in Hawaii and even visited the State Library. I can hardly wait to tell you about it.

Hugs to all - go read a romance this month ;-)
Family, friends and co-workers love it! There is also a story to how I got it. I'll edit later to share the story and hopefully add pictures of cookies but I shared most of the recipe on a recent cruise and want to get it posted!

My Favorite Chocolate Chip Cookies

This makes a huge amount of cookies and I use a stand mixer. I have halved the recipe without problems but still needed the stand mixer so I don't bother. Maybe your hand mixer is more powerful.

Cream together:

2 C butter
2 C sugar
2 C brown sugar (I actually use the whole pound because so much is left of the box)

Add:

4 eggs
2 tsp vanilla

Mix together:

4 C flour
5 C oatmeal* (use a blender to make flour out of this)
1 tsp salt
2 tsp baking powder
2 tsp baking soda

Slowly add dry ingredients to mixer. Mix well. Dough is ready to add any or all the following:

24 oz chocolate chips (I use milk chocolate
8 oz grated chocolate bar
3 C chopped nuts
I've also added raw sunflower seeds so go ahead and experiment

Bake on ungreased cookie sheets. Make golf ball sized cookies, set 2" apart and bake at 375˚F for 15 minutes. Makes 112 cookies.

Or use a cookie scoop. I use a small one, bake at 350˚F for 11 minutes. Most of the time, not all the dough makes it as cookies but I have gotten 104 cookies before.

*I have no idea out much oatmeal flour this makes, when I got the recipe, oatmeal flour wasn't found in the grocery stores easily. Or at all!
Challenge runs from January 1 to December 31

GOAL: Read books with your first, middle or last
name as an author name, character name, place name or is about someone
of that name. You choose your goal # of books.

This challenges goes from Jan 1, 2019 to Dec 31, 2019 and includes
all types of books (audio, ebooks etc), rereads are fine and you can
choose books as you go or ahead of time. You can overlap books with
other challenges. It’s okay if you started a book before Jan 1 as long
as you finish it in 2019.

To clarify:

You can use your first, middle and/or last name and may include nicknames if you so choose.

You don’t have to use the same name for each read or in the same way.

You can use maiden and/or married names if you have both.

The names don’t have to be spelled the same. e.g. Meagan can read books by a Megan or a Meaghann.

Let's see, my mom called me GiGi as well as Gina Marina so there's two names to choose from. I don't think a high school nickname from one friend counts (it's been YEARS). I do have an easy choice as Dick Francis is a favorite author and my last name is Francis ;-)

So, how many books? Six but only because it's been over a year since I've read much of anything that had an ISBN.

Hosted by me, here at The Lair!

This is a new one for me and I think it's pretty simple. Read three books in a row that are from the same series or have the same author. For example, Anne McCaffrey has several series so I could read three books from one series or one book from three different series as long as she's the author.

Guidelines are pretty simple.

1. Choose a Level

Picture Books: 1 set of 3

Middle Grade: 2 sets of 3

Teen: 3 sets of 3

Adult: 4 sets of 3

2. You may move up a level but not down.
3. You don’t need a blog to participate. Feel free to link to a
Goodreads shelf or another public profile where everyone can see your
books.
4. Reviews are not necessary but a list of books is. There will
be a link up for reviews if you wish to post them. Edit: a list of books
read ;-) You can make a list of books you want to read and change them
if you'd like.
5. All formats allowed as long as the book has an isbn or equivalent and can be purchased/borrowed, the book counts.
6. Short story collections count as long as they're all the same author
7. Crossovers from other challenges count
8. Books started before January 1st, 2019 don’t count.

Twelve books doesn't seem like a lot but it's the "in a row" part that might mess me up!
I've got to get into the swing of just plain reading first. At least reading something with an ISBN! After that, I'll still have the problem of getting all the reviews done or reading to met specific requirements!

I hope to complete at least one of my reading challenges this year!!!
