I've been gone a while. I started reading fanfiction to escape and I got sucked in an abyss.

I have no idea if someone else is hosting similar challenges. I just grabbed some of what I have hosted before.

Here's to a happy year of great reading
Jan2023: Not much has changed. Writing a fanfiction now O_o as well as reading but I bought 7 new books in December and hope to get those read soon. Crossing fingers about adding challenges (late!)

~ here are the new non-review books in my house ~

Then Came You by Jill Shalvis
Animal Magnetism, July 2014, mass market paperback (also audio and ebook)

Veterinary intern Emily can’t believe she wound up in the small town of Sunshine, Idaho, instead of the Los Angeles clinic she had always imagined. Now she has to put her plans to move to L.A. on hold for a whole year while she fulfills the obligation of her vet school scholarship.

Then Wyatt, her gorgeous one-night stand from a Reno vet conference, introduces himself as her new boss. And Emily is just as drawn to his seductive looks and quiet strength as she was on that very steamy night. She soon learns that Wyatt isn’t just a laid-back doctor, but a delicious alpha male tempting her away from her carefully laid-out plans…

The Great Hunt by Robert Jordan (fan site)
The Wheel of Time, 1990, mass market paperback (also trade, hardcover, ebook and audio)
(this is a re-read and maybe a re-purchase. I thought I had it)

No description? This is book two, let's just say that these 600+ pages were suppose to be in book one. An epic fantasy tale of 13 books and they're all this long.

The Escape by Mary Balogh
Survivors' Club, July 2014, mass market paperback (also ebook and audio)

Six years after being severely wounded in the Peninsular Wars as a cavalry officer, and three years after leaving Penderris Hall in Cornwall, where he had stayed with his fellow Survivors during his long road to recovery, Ben finally admits to himself that he will never be able to walk properly again or resume his old way of life. But he feels adrift. . . .

Samantha McKay is a recent widow. Her husband died after suffering for several years from battle wounds, and she is feeling drained and empty, for he would allow no one to nurse him but her and he was a demanding patient. It does not help that her sister-in-law has recently come to live with her and has very strict ideas on what is proper—and improper—for a widow to do. . . .

A Memory of Light by Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson
The Wheel of Time, 2014, mass market paperback (also hardcover, audio, ebook and leather)

This is final book and I'm sure Mr. Jordan's fans are thrilled that Mr. Sanderson was able to complete the series. Most find it to be a satisfying end to an epic fantasy that started in 1990. Please start with book one, you'll be lost if you don't read these in order and the enjoyment will be greatly lessened. The editor for all of the series has remained the same and the final books were written from notes lest by the author.

Missing You by Harlan Coben

Kat feels a spark, wondering if this might be the moment when past tragedies recede and a new world opens up to her. But when she reaches out to the man in the profile, her reawakened hope quickly darkens into suspicion and then terror as an unspeakable conspiracy comes to light, in which monsters prey upon the most vulnerable.

The Gift by Richard Paul Evans
Inspirational, 2009, small hardcover

There is no hurt so great that love cannot heal it.

Nathan Hurst hated Christmas. For the rest of the world it was a day of joy and celebration; for Nathan it was simply a reminder of the event that destroyed his childhood until a snowstorm, a cancelled flight, and an unexpected meeting with a young mother and her very special son would show him that Christmas is indeed the season of miracles.

The Perfect Poison by Amanda Quick (Jayne Ann Krentz)

Styxx by Sherrilyn Kenyon
Dark-Hunter, , mass market paperback

As the twin to Acheron, Styxx hasn’t always been on his brother’s side. They’ve spent more centuries going at each other’s throats than protecting their backs. Now Styxx has a chance to prove his loyalty to his brother—but only if he’s willing to trade his life and future for Acheron’s.

There are two sides to every story.

And you don’t know Styxx…

The Arrangement by Mary Balogh
Survivors' Club, 2013, mass market paperback

Desperate to escape his mother’s matchmaking, Vincent Hunt, Viscount Darleigh, flees to a remote country village. But even there, another marital trap is sprung. So when Miss Sophia Fry’s intervention on his behalf finds her unceremoniously booted from her guardian’s home, Vincent is compelled to act. He may have been blinded in battle, but he can see a solution to both their problems: marriage.

At first, quiet, unassuming Sophia rejects Vincent’s proposal. But when such a gloriously handsome man persuades her that he needs a wife of his own choosing as much as she needs protection from destitution, she agrees. Her alternative is too dreadful to contemplate. But how can an all-consuming fire burn from such a cold arrangement? As friendship and camaraderie lead to sweet seduction and erotic pleasure, dare they believe a bargain born of desperation might lead them both to a love destined to be?

Taken by Two by April Andrews (blog)
The Mating Season, 2013, ebook

Jaeger knows the risks of venturing outside, but when his turn comes he has no choice, and when the visitors find him he can’t fight them off. Taken aboard their craft, Jaeger is not sure what to expect, so when he is told that he now belongs to the two men who have captured him he vows to resist.

But, these males are like nothing Jaeger has ever known, and before long he finds himself falling under their spell. Can Jaeger come to accept the men who insist he is their given mate? And if he does, will he be able to save more than just himself, will he be able to save his people too?

. . . and continuing the series with Captured by Three and Chased by Four.

The Wicked Wallflower by Maya Rodale
Wallflower trilogy, 2013 ebook

Lady Emma Avery has accidentally announced her engagement—to the most eligible man in England. As soon as it's discovered that Emma has never actually met the infamously attractive Duke of Ashbrooke, she'll no longer be a wallflower; she'll be a laughingstock. And then Ashbrooke does something Emma never expected. He plays along with her charade.

A temporary betrothal to the irreproachable Lady Avery could be just the thing to repair Ashbrooke's tattered reputation. Seducing her is simply a bonus. And then Emma does what he never expected: she refuses his advances. It's unprecedented. Inconceivable. Quite damnably alluring.

London's Least Likely to Misbehave has aroused the curiosity—among other things—of London's most notorious rogue. Now nothing will suffice but to uncover Emma's wanton side and prove there's nothing so satisfying as two perfect strangers . . . being perfectly scandalous together.

. . . and continuing the series with Wildflower Gone Wild

Loving Rose: The Redemption of Malcolm Sinclair by Stephanie Laurens

But then her enemy closes in, and Rose turns to Thomas as the only man who can protect her and the children. And when she asks for his help, Thomas finally understands his true purpose, and with unwavering commitment, he seeks his redemption the only way he can—through living the reality of loving Rose.
