I've been gone a while. I started reading fanfiction to escape and I got sucked in an abyss.

I have no idea if someone else is hosting similar challenges. I just grabbed some of what I have hosted before.

Here's to a happy year of great reading
Jan2023: Not much has changed. Writing a fanfiction now O_o as well as reading but I bought 7 new books in December and hope to get those read soon. Crossing fingers about adding challenges (late!)

Review or a Critique? Why I blog

I love blogging and for me it's mostly all about the books. What you're reading, what you're waiting for, what you love and what you don't. I like to share those things with you too.  In order to share I need to tell you about the book and what I thought of it. A new follower had the most wonderful post about how she feels about blogging with a link to an article "Review Or Critique, Which Is It?".

I use to be ALL about the books but there is more to life than books (I've recently and reluctantly accepted this as truth) and I want to read about that too. I want to look at your pictures and weekend cooking, your races and your family. Tell me about your school classes and your students, what crafts you're doing and before/after decorating pictures. I'm enjoying the peak into your world. I don't always comment like I should but I love lurking.

I am not qualified to critique your work. I've never said I was, haven't tried to. I base all my reviews on the experience I had as a reader. Sometimes I'm pulled out of the book by formatting, typos, strange wording and I may mention it in my review but that again is based on my experience as a reader. One book was a DNF simply because the ink was missing from several spots. Hard to read what isn't there! This was no fault of the author but it was still a DNF.

Head on over to Heather's blog, she said it so well.

Happy Reading, happy everything!

male/male romance

For TJ Delaney and Cole Labelle, it’s time to turn their lives around and get real.

TJ needs to exchange his playboy lifestyle for a job and prove he’s a responsible adult rather than a spoiled, rich brat.

Cole needs to free himself of his family’s control and their paranoid fears by proving being gay like his father is the only thing he and the man who gave him life have in common. And that by being openly gay he won’t cause them public embarrassment as his father did.

Can TJ and Cole achieve their goal of "getting real" and also find love in the process?

~*~*~
Short, quick, fun read. TJ's Dad gives him an ultimatum and now he's left with no wheels, allowance, or credit cards. Sure he can still live at home and keep his cell phone but he has no marketable skills! Or does he?

I loved Cole and his willingness to be manipulated by his family. I wanted to jump for joy at his solution.

Four years ago, Luke walked out on Affton while he was still sleeping, leaving only a quick “I can’t do this” email behind. Affton has spent those four years focused on his career, a now-successful one at that. So when Affton encounters Luke in the graphics department of the company for which he now works, it rocks his world.

Insisting that Luke owes him a coffee at least, Affton finds his world further rocked when he learns why Luke left him in the first place. Can he convince Luke that he isn’t the man Luke believes him to be and that they deserve a second chance? Or will he be fated to watch Luke run away from him yet again?

~*~*~
I love second chances! This is a very short, quick read but it is a hard one emotionally as well. You see, Luke and Affton went to an office party that went bad. Roofies were involved. While the story stake place four years later, the aftereffects are still there and the talk that should have happened then, happens now. Tears are involved.

There is a happy-ever-after and the bad guys gets it where it hurts so it was a satisfying read.

Shane Willet has been crushing on his roommate Jake for as long as he can remember with no relief in sight. But as studious as Jake is explosive, Shane has given up hope of catching his friend's eye. In an effort to get over him, Shane allows Jake to drag him to a Key Party—a sex party where men are thrown together by chance. Shane can only hope that hot sex with a virtual stranger will help him forget.

Key Parties are nothing new to a player like Jake Ritter, but tonight he has his own agenda. It involves leaving all other men behind and finally getting Shane in bed. Unbeknownst to Shane, Jake's rigged the party for them to end up together. Under the cover of darkness, he will indulge in every kinky act that he's been imagining over the past few months in a bid to bind Shane to him with sex.

Reality more than lives up to fantasy, and both men are left raw in the aftermath of their night of pleasure. Jake may think he knows all there is to know about men and sex, but Shane is going to teach him a thing or two about love...

~*~*~
Can a book be sweet and sexy? The story starts at a Key Party one weekend. There is some back story and a little foreshadowing but the story is completely settled before the next weekend. I loved the characters at the key party, one sweet, one a little sleazy, one a jerk but all lovable in their roles.

Quick read, lots of sex :-)

male/male romance, 1st in a series
source: private library

It’ll take hard work for Carlos, Troy and Will to turn the Mossy Glenn Ranch into the successful business it used to be, and even more challenging will be making the place their home.

Carlos, Troy and Will met in Where There’s a Will. They found each other and a love not many people could imagine. It worked for them, and they’ve been handed a chance at a new life and a home of their own.

The Mossy Glenn Ranch, owned by three siblings, Nick, Rory, and Annabelle, used to be flush with success. Then the previous owners destroyed almost everything, selling their heritage right out from under the three.

They bought part of it back, and asked Carlos and his partners to make the place successful again. It’s a chance he grabs with both hands once his guys agree, but there are challenges for all of them, and Will’s desire to make the place specifically LGBT-employee friendly and safe may cause more trouble than they already find when the get to their new home.

From a situation in town that reminds Will all too much of his own abusive past, to the surprising support of many of the townsfolk, the trio find themselves facing new challenges and reaching for the love and support that grows stronger between them.

~*~*~
We've meet Carlos, Troy and Will in another series. It isn't necessary to have read the other series to enjoy this one, it only give a little background on how the three guys met. Plus, they were only supporting characters in one of the books. I'm happy to see they have their own series.

This felt real. Small-town at it's best and worst. I am disappointed in the length, not long enough! Most of the questions are answered, leaving us with a satisfying read and a little cliffhanger.

There are few things that evoke such a universal feeling of warmth and humor as the work of Jim Henson. In his own words, as well as those of some of his best-known characters like Kermit the Frog and Ernie, we’ll get a glimpse of the philosophy and humor that was so essential to Jim’s creations. We’ll also get a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the collaborative spirit of this gentle artistic genius from the people Jim knew, loved, and inspired.

This uplifting collection of quotes, stories, anecdotes, songs, and insights gives new life to Jim’s magical world. With chapters titled Dynamite Determination; Listen to Your Heart; Together We Can Do It; It Starts When We’re Kids; and A Part of Everything and Everyone, It’s Not Easy Being Green is by turns entertaining, inspiring, and laugh-out-loud funny, reminding us that every day counts. Readers young and old will cherish this collection.

Culled from The Jim Henson Company archives, program transcripts, personal letters, and interviews, along with some of Jim’s never-before-published writings, It’s Not Easy Being Green is a testament to the legacy of a man who changed the way we see the world.

~*~*~
Fun. Cute. Read through quickly the first time then go back, randomly reading pages. Did you know we almost missed out on the Muppets?

Quotes from Jim, co-workers, family, celebrities, and Muppets. You have to love a book with quotes from "Ma Otter" taken just as seriously as quotes from Ray Charles. There is a quick background on each of those with quotes in the back of the book with Anthony Minghella (director of The English Patient) getting as much to say about them as Cotterpin Doozer and Mokey Fraggle (both from Fraggle Rock).

There is life advise, work advise, parenting advise, all around how to be a great guy advise. I've got several pages bookmarked and plan on adding the inspiration to my planner.
If you care about what you do and work hard at it, there isn't anything you can't do if you want to.

Undercover mercenary Trace Rivers loves the adrenaline rush of a well-planned mission. First he'll earn the trust of corrupt businessman Murray Coburn, then gather the proof he needs to shut down the man's dirty smuggling operation. It's a perfect scheme—until Coburn's long-lost daughter saunters in with her own deadly plan for revenge.

With a smile like an angel and fire in her eyes, Priscilla Patterson isn't who she seems to be. But neither is the gorgeous bodyguard who ignites all her senses. Joining forces to plot Coburn's downfall, Priss and Trace must fight the undeniable heat between them. For one wrong move, one lingering embrace, will expose them to the wrath of a merciless opponent….

~*~*~
Yikes! A romance book with a decidedly sickening story line. Well, corrupt "businessman" deals in human trafficking. So yeah, the hero is there to shut him down but anyone in that line of work has to be off a little mentally. We didn't spend a lot of time with the merchandise (thank Heavens), but interactions between Coburn and his girlfriend are a little off putting.

This book has kidnapping, rescue, true love, and surprises. Great addition to a series about men with the skills, training and knowledge to do all that is necessary.

Ready for the next book, Savor the Danger, which is already in the house!

Alphabet Blogging. . .

am I? Can I post not only every day but following guidelines? Not sure. But just in case ;-) Plus I get to tell you all about it!
The brainchild of Arlee Bird, at Tossing it Out, the A to Z Challenges to post the letter of the alphabet every day during the month of April, with Sundays off for good behavior. We will start with A on Monday April 1st. Whether you go with a theme or freestyle, your post must match the letter of the alphabet for that day.

You'd think this would be easy. I have a book blog, I could post about titles or authors each day. I'm also looking to improve my fitness and health. Add redecorating, charity work, and de-cluttering plus beginning gardening and I could blog about anything and everything.

Well, think again! When you sign up, you are asked to classify your blog. Think "my blog is mainly about . . ." and you'll get the idea. There are 22 areas to claim and you only get one! Of course, I'll pick books.  ;-)

Challenge: Blogging from A to Z

Where: at it's own blog also facebook and Twitter (#AtoZChallenge)

When: April 2013

Hosted by: 13 Ambassadors

Requirements: Post about that days letter, each day. There are a couple of others and if you don't blog a few days in a row, you'll be deleted from the list. Check out the sign up page and join us!

Petrea? Have you ever done A to Z photo?

Thanks to Charmaine Clancy for posting about the challenge, even though she's not participating this year.

After Huckleberry drank the spiked toast at the UPAC conference, he had but one thought on his mind… Claim a mate. He jumped the first good-looking stranger he didn’t think would eat him, and manic need took over. Unfortunately, the man he picked was less than thrilled.

Peyton just wanted to be left alone and keep to his strict work schedule. Was that really too much to ask? He’d gone to the UPAC conference to get his required attendance for the decade out of the way. He never thought he’d bring anyone home. But when Huck tries desperately to make up for what he’s done to Peyton and nothing helps, he works himself to exhaustion. And with the strange anger issues and quirks his mate has, he doesn’t see the loving mating he always dreamed of. Will he even last the required four years?

Not the best "first" book of the series to read but still a good addition to it. Peyton's father is a Duke so marrying someone not of his family's choosing throws a serious damper on things. So does his OCD, and Huck's desire to be loved. Desire so deep he'll do anything. This is a HEA story.
